01What we collect
You give us
- Account details — your name, email, phone number and password.
- Verification documents — an ID document and, for owners, bank account details for payouts.
- Payment evidence — the bank slips (photos or PDFs) you upload, including the reference code, bank and amount.
- Listings and bookings — gear details, photos, dates, deposits and messages between renters and owners.
We collect automatically
- Device and usage data — browser, approximate location, pages viewed and actions taken, to keep the service secure and working.
- Cookies and similar technologies — to keep you signed in and remember your currency and theme preferences.
02Why we use it
- To run the marketplace — create your account, show listings, take bookings and process bank-slip payments.
- To verify identity and payments — confirm owners are real and that slips are valid, which protects everyone from fraud.
- To handle deposits, payouts and refunds, and to resolve disputes fairly using handover and return evidence.
- To provide support, send service messages about your rentals, and keep records required by Maldivian law.
- To improve MGR and keep it safe — detecting duplicate slips, suspicious accounts and abuse.
03Bank slips & financial data
Bank slips are sensitive, so we treat them carefully. They are visible only to our verification team and are used solely to confirm that the correct amount — rental plus the refundable deposit — reached the right MGR account. We store the slip, its reference code and review outcome as part of your rental record. We do not sell this data, ever.
05How long we keep it
We keep your account data while your account is open. Rental records, bank slips and payout history are retained for the period required by Maldivian financial and tax rules, even after a rental ends, so we can handle disputes, refunds and audits. When data is no longer needed we delete or anonymise it.
06Security
We use encryption in transit, access controls and limited internal access to protect your data — particularly ID documents and bank slips. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password and tell us at once if you spot anything suspicious on your account.
07Your choices & rights
- Access and correct your account details at any time from Settings.
- Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you, or ask us to delete it where we are not legally required to keep it.
- Manage cookies through your browser; note that disabling them may sign you out or reset preferences.
- Opt out of non-essential emails. We will still send essential messages about your rentals, payments and deposits.
08Children
MGR is not for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from minors, and we will delete any such account if we become aware of it.
09Changes & contact
If we update this policy the “last updated” date above will change, and material changes will be notified in-app. For any privacy question, or to exercise your rights, email privacy@mgr.mv.
