01The three policies
When an owner lists gear they pick a cancellation policy. You always see which one applies on the listing and again at checkout, so you know your options before you transfer anything.
Full refund (incl. deposit) up to 24 hours before pickup.
Full refund up to 3 days before pickup; deposit always refundable.
50% of the rental refunded up to 5 days before pickup; deposit always refundable.
02How the deposit is treated
The refundable security deposit is never part of a cancellation penalty. If you cancel a booking before pickup — under any policy — the full deposit is returned to you. Penalties, where they apply, only ever touch the rental amount, never the deposit. For how the deposit works after a rental is collected, see Deposits & Refunds.
03Cancelling before your slip is verified
If you cancel before your bank slip has been verified, nothing has been charged or paid out yet. If you had already transferred funds, we refund the full amount to your bank account. Verification usually takes only a few hours.
04How to cancel
- Open the rental from your dashboard and choose Cancel booking.
- You'll see exactly what will be refunded under the listing's policy before you confirm.
- Approved refunds are sent back to the bank account you transferred from, typically within 3–5 business days.
05If the owner cancels
If an owner cancels a confirmed booking, you receive a full refund of everything you paid — rental, service fee, delivery and deposit — regardless of the listing’s policy. We also help you find replacement gear where we can, and repeated owner cancellations affect an owner’s standing on MGR.
06Weather, ferries & force majeure
The Maldives runs on the weather and the ferries. If a confirmed pickup becomes impossible because of a cancelled ferry, port closure, severe weather or another event outside either party’s control, contact support before the pickup date. We will work with you and the owner to reschedule or arrange a fair refund of the rental amount — and as always, the deposit is returned in full.
07No-shows & early returns
- No-show by the renter: the owner's selected policy applies to the rental amount; the deposit is still refunded.
- Returning gear early: the rental is charged for the days agreed at booking — early return doesn't reduce the rental, but your deposit is released on the normal schedule after inspection.
